Traveling from home

Japan, Morocco, Sem categoria

What if we could keep traveling from home?

Traveling for real! Live, interactive in a new and comfortable way. An opportunity to learn and have fun within the duration of a movie.

Watch the video to learn more:

It’s time to reshape how we travel without losing the essence of getting in touch with local people.

We can travel more often and visit many places in a more affordable and comfortable way, from our households.

The project

Video-call interactive trip connecting you, at home, to a local person abroad.

Purpose

Cultural exchange and entertainment making tourism possible without being physically present.

Benefits

We all benefit from it. Travellers learn about host’s culture and host earn money from the experience.

Upcoming trips

Visit Aziz, ikat master weaver at Uzbekistan. Get to know his daily life and culture at country’s most important producing region of this national treasure fabric. Aziz will also teach us how to cook plov, Uzbekistan’s national dish.

Next expeditions: TBA

Under development experiences

Visit to M’bark’s family in close to the Sahara desert in Morocco. We will get a glimpse of the family’s daily life and berber culture. Also, we will be able to cook a tagine and, every year by the end of April and early May we can pick up roses at the valley. Kelaat M’guna is the biggest producer or rose oil and water in Northern Africa.

Visit a 240-year-old traditional homestay in Japan. Tucked in a small village in the mountains, this former post-town has served as a support city in the middle of a historical route connecting Edo (Tokyo) to Kyoto. The streets are full of traditional Edo period (from 1603 to 1868) original houses.

Reshaping tourism

Traveling from home is a new option in the tourism industry. Its essence is kept by still being able to get in touch with local people and learning from them. Through video-calls distances are no longer a problem. People that might not physically travel can also take advantage of it. Traveling is more affordable than ever.

It is an opportunity to try new destinations that have long been on the wishlist. It is a complimentary way to travel because it does not replace the experience of being present. It is, after all, a chance to travel more often.

Where there is internet and someone to share its culture there is a trip.

Would you like to learn how to prepare a traditional dish and all its secrets from a local person? How about learning languages, history and culture through a local? And, what do you think of taking part into a volunteer program and knowing where donations go and what they are used for?

Possibilities are endless.

This kind of experience might be used to assist on your itinerary making; and serve as a way to keep an already visited destination alive forever.

How does it work?

We gather a small group and through video-call we connect to host somewhere in the world. A mobile, computer or tablet is all one need to take part in this journey.

Oh, and of course a comfortable seat at home so you can interact with host if you feel like talking. Interaction is not mandatory, it is an option given for travellers.

Language barrier

English is the chosen language for most of our trips. However, if the host does not speak English, I will translate it into English. I myself have been to the majority of the places and I know the hosts personally. At the tour I am a facilitator, not a guide. The host will guide us into his world and I will be there to assist and to further give cultural context whenever needed.

How big is the group?

Groups are small so all the travellers can interact if they want to. From 5 to 1 people.

Duration

There are two tours:

Standard: lasting from 2 to 2 hours and half this trip aims to teach and entertain a little bit of everything.

Customised: duration to be settled according to how deep a group wants to venture into a subject. Workshops and immersive trips can be created to specific demands.

Pricing

One of its core values is to make tourism possible whether physically or online. People on the field can still make money from it allowing tourism to exist and thrive.

Part of the cost will go straight to the host.

Cost per person and per standard (aprox. 2 hours) trip range from USD 50,00 to USD 70,00.

The fare is based on the complexity and depth of the experience, need of interpreter, duration and the number of hosts on the video-call.

Partnerships and customised experiences

Companies and brands seeking to use travel as a tool of learning and entertainment can benefit by co-creating exclusive and customised experiences to attend specific demands.
